#BigBeacon Twitter chat – May 27 – School’s Out: Sparking Summertime #STEM Excitement!

PLTWSchool is out for the summer, but student learning doesn’t have to – and shouldn’t – stop.

Countless studies show summer learning loss is a real challenge for American students. The average “summer slide” in math and reading amounts to one month per year, with a two-month loss of reading skills occurring among low-income students, according to a 2011 RAND Corporation report.

Summertime #STEM engagement is critical to students reaching their potential, and by taking a relevant, activity-based approach to summer STEM education, learning becomes an experience that’s both enriching and fun.

On May 27 at 8 p.m. ET, please join Project Lead The Way (PLTW) on Twitter for a conversation on summertime STEM engagement. Discussion topics:

  • How can students stay engaged in STEM during the summer?
  • How can parents with and without STEM backgrounds encourage students to stay engaged and excited about STEM? How can they get involved?
  • What titles should be on students’ summer STEM reading lists?
  • How can STEM teachers continue learning during the summer months?

Get involved by following and utilizing the hashtag #PLTWBB.
